Tea Party, Rancho Cucamonga

At the intersection of Foothill Blvd. and Day Creek, slated for the 5-7pm window, organizer Laura Boatwright had only expected a couple hundred to turn out when she first started sending out the word in March.

Count provided by the Rancho Cucamonga PD just past 6:30 pm was 1,600.

And I would say that was an undercount.

People started arriving at 4 pm, gathering in the parking lot infront of the closed Circuit City. For alledgedly bitter, clingy, angry, scared rightwing extremists the mood was wonderfully relaxed and upbeat. People pointed to each others' handpainted signs, applauding the especially clever ones. Large flags abounded, American and "Don't Tread On Me." A little after 5 pm the crowd has grown considerably, and groups started circulating between the corners of the intersection. Five or six deep at the corners, the crowd then spread out in each direction almost a full block, one to two deep, down each side.

I spotted some media, but they seemed more interested in trying to get footage of "colorful" characters. Rancho PD undercounted the crowd, it will be interesting to see what numbers the media runs with ...

Because of the ASTROTURF!1!!!

For some really big pictures of the crowd see here, here, here, here, here, and here.

That was actually a lot of fun to go to!

My 85 year old mothera week away from a Mastectomy decided this was an important enough issue to attend her First Protest. Hours early with a primo parking space, walker and protest signs in hand she sat on the corner from 3:30 till after six. She spent the rest of the time in front seat of my car wrapped in Blankets till after 7:00 to show her solidarity. She was energized and Proud to be an American. Maybe they'll listen now! So here's to those Right Wing Extremists....March on.

Wow. You had a major news network and Congressman pushing this hard and this was the extent of the turnout? I guess teabagging isn't as popular in Southern California as I was led to believe.

Josh

You're not that stupid so I just chalk up your bile and lying to fear. Fear that you and the Leftist ilk you hang with might not be able to pull off a lurch to statism without Americans who actually believe in the Constitution pushing back.

You poor saps are being led around by the nose. Your taxes aren't going up and Dick Armey and Sean Hannity don't give a shit about you.

Josh, how dare you. Darleen didn't care about taxes or the deficit when Bush was in power, but dang it, now that Obama has given us the largest tax cut in history, she cries "foul," because everyone knows tax cuts for me and her and a return to Clinton administration tax rates (ten points higher than even St. Ronnie managed) are going to hurt the people who run her movement....

...except for that weird fascination with the American Idol woman. I mean, I thought Darleen was too smart to watch talent shows on the Internet, but dear lord, apparently in addition to opposing non-existent tax increases, she has the time to watch great TV.

You're a Renaissance woman, Dar.

I had to decide what I am willing to die for and came to this answer: FAITH, FAMILY, FREEDOM, AND FIREARMS! I pray I am not alone!!!!!!!!!!

Although, we as Americans, are strong from our differing opinions and freedom from imprisonment to voice them, it amazes me such a large segment have bought into "it's ok" to tax us.
Our schools obviously have failed to teach many of us the lessons our fore-fathers stood for in not wanting unfair taxation.
We should all agree reasonable taxes for the common good, such as defense, roads and only necessary infrastructure are acceptable.
The hard left and the hard right are polar opposites and make things far worse than better.
I am glad to see and hear it is now the moderates who are fed up with all the partisan rants.
The republicans talk small government but are anything but that. Democrats say they are for the little man however are as in bed with corporate America as the republicans.
I don't pretend to know the solution but people taking an interest in what is happening now is a good start. Those who need or want government involved in their retirement, health care or social agendas are a big part of the problem.
Americans are self reliant and can stand on their own two feet. When we stand together we become the great nation we are. The weak ones in our ranks will always be there but we the strong, need to look at them, of course feel pity for their lack of intestinal fortitude, and tell them to shut up then sit down.
Let's hope we are not the generation that watched America begin it's march to her end. We should not go the way of Rome.
