UPDATE: Just to be clearer, though Barry's Brownshirts won't care - facts are not a high priority to the Left - Joe IS a plumber.
Many news outlets have gotten it correct, but some have not and that needs to be corrected. Mr. Newell is licensed, and Joe the Plumber is just short of his five years before he can apply for licensure, but as supervised by Newell, he’s o.k.Just doing the work that the MSM (Barry's PR division) refuses to do.

Oh, I love that site. The one that had all the righties wetting their panties because the DOJ was going to file a RICO suit against ACORN...except it was just a couple of wingnutty cranks mucking up the courts with a nuisance lawsuit. LOL!
I'm beginning to think this whole wingnut thing is a branch of mental disease. Think about it. These people consider themselves the Law and Order party. Yet Joe the Not-a-Plumber is being "trashed" and persecuted because the Toledo Building Department has the audacity to expect city ordinances to be followed. Like plumbers should have licenses! That's fascism! How can we consider this a free country if we have building departments with enforceable codes and ordinances!
You guys are hysterical. Joe isn't being persecuted, and certainly not for confronting Obama. As we all can see for ourselves, Obama treated him with the utmost respect and gave him a detailed answer, spending a good bit of time with him. He never even suspected Joe was a big fat liar - a wingnut McCain supporter who lied about his profession and pretended his fantasy of clearing $250k in a profession he isn't qualified in was real. Imagine Joe the Not-a-Plumber was going to make a bigger profit in his fantasy business than 97% of all those qualified small business owners in America! The guy's a liar but at least he's got a great imagination!

I know you likely cant understand any of this but if Joe was working as an unlicenced plumber, he would be breaking the law and would be prosecuted.
Joe would actually have to already own his own plumbing business and advertise to the public that he was a “licenced” plumber, when he was not, otherwise he is not breaking the law.
See, Joe may work for a plumbing company that is already run by a “licenced” plumber, which means Joe doesn’t have to have a plumbers licence.
When you hire a roofing contractor to install a new roof on your home all his laborers are NOT licenced roofing contractors.
I know, it’s a difficult concept to grasp.

Or perhaps this “licence” is like the city business “licence” I have to get, which is just paying a fee to the city and then they hand me a piece of paper that says “business licence”. Its not the type of “licence” that a truck driver gets if they pass the test, It about money in the cities pocket.
I have a feeling his apprenticeship that was to have ended last year also plays a part in his needing to be licenced now.
This past year has been tough for my business, so now I am an un-American tax deadbeat and a law breaker just like Joe.
I wasn’t following Darleen’s lead, I was following yours.

According to the Ohio State Board of Compliance, plumbers have to pass a sitting examination in addition to completing an apprenticeship or other training program.
I work in real estate/bank closings and these trade requirements are very important. They ensure safety of the work done for consumers and protect consumers from being defrauded. They seem annoying but without them people are easily cheated and unsafe or destructive work is done on their homes, their biggest and most important investment.
Joe the Not Plumber claims he made $40,000 last year, meaning he'd get a tax cut from Obama's plan. He even had to admit it himself in a recent interview. He isn't in any position to become wealthy anytime soon. It's not because of taxes. It's because he hasn't prepared himself correctly, hasn't played by the rules and hasn't been personally responsible. I don't know why Republicans are holding this liar/loser up as any kind of poster child.
I don't mean to pile on you ML. Unlike Darleen, you do sound like a genuinely nice guy. I wish you could think again about voting against your own best interests by voting for the lying Republicans.

Joe is apprenticing (5 years) to a licensed Plumber (in business for 34 years). He said "I'm planning on purchasing a business".
Barry came to HIS neighborhood and approached Joe, not the other way around.
But Barry's Brownshirts (have you gotten your jackboots yet, Leah?) have decided to shoot the messenger.
Keep it up. It is showing clearly Barry's contempt for the First Amendment for anyone that dissents from his "vision."

That’s interesting. I work in the field of civil engineering, so its surprising to me that Joe would have to be licenced, not all employee’s at the firm I consult for is a licenced civil matter of fact only the owner is licenced and everyone else works under his licence.
Designing housing tracts, roads, storm drain systems, sewer systems and everything else that has to do with infrastructure is a bit more involved then say plumbing. So I am surprised the requirements for a plumber would be so high, thus I’m still skeptical.
This highschool graduate is not voting against my best interest, as bad as last year was I made more than double what Joe made, so Obama will take that from me and give it to the Joe’s of America, no thanks.
Obama is going to roll back the Bush tax cuts to the days of Clinton and higher and I am stuck in the middle, paying the bill. The highest federal tax rate we have now is 35% that will go to almost 40%, the 33% bracket will move to 35% and so on. That doesn’t include social security which for the self-employed is around 14%, which means Obama wants close to 50% of what I garner.
The day I vote for a democrat will be a cold day in hell.

I'm sure building codes vary by state. Here in NY, all the trades are licensed. To protect the consumers, as I said. It's far too easy for any stranger to call himself a "plumber" and cheat an unsuspecting homeowner. So it makes perfect sense to me.

I really should have added, ML, that you'd have to make more than SIX TIMES what Joe the "Plumber" makes in order to get taxed (a tiny bit more) under Obama's plan.
Joe is that sorriest kind of wingnut kook, the guy who will never get ahead in the Republican version of America, but who keeps imagining someday he might. He might as well wish for a unicorn. In the meantime, as he sinks deeper and deeper into debt and despair, with a tax lien against his house that means he'll never get any kind of loan (let alone the kind he'd need to buy a business) , he keeps enabling the ultra-wealthy and ultra-powerful to accumulate more and more wealth unto themselves.
Joe isn't talking about the American Dream. He's talking about the American Fantasy that he may somehow "strike it rich", even though he doesn't have the credentials or the means or the systems in place to build wealth for himself. Republicans rely on people like him to keep wishing for unicorns, while they keep raking in the bucks that (surprise!) will never ever ever "trickle down" to toadies and brown nosers like himself. They'll use Joe up and spit him back out, like they've done to this country the past 16 years they've held power.

IF Joe wasn't a big old poser - if he really did have a business clearing $280,000 a year (which, if you're a business owner, you know is one hell of an unusual small business), you know how much Obama's plan would cost him? Between $700 and $900 a year! That's it. And if he hired one new employee, he'd get a $3k credit, so he'd be paying even less than he is now.
If you love this country enough to vote, don't you owe it at least a few hours of your time to at least learn the FACTS about the candidates rather than just suck up rightwing propaganda that fits your preconceptions?

And I know you won't agree, but I think Michelle Obama is going to make one hell of a classy first lady. She's the real American Dream. Raised in a one bedroom apartment with a Dad who hobbled to work every day on two canes (he had MS), then graduating cum laude from Princeton and going on to earn a Harvard law degree. She didn't steal a crippled woman's husband or become a drug addict. Instead she's been a faithful wife to one man for 19 years and an outstanding mother of two bright, beautiful girls. I think she's absolutely awesome and that whole family is going to do our country proud. You've got absolutely nothing to worry about, but I know you'll only see that as it unfolds.
