Palin and Foreign Policy

Gov Palin has been in the very unique position of having her state in kissing proximity with Russia.

You all remember Russia, right? Raper of Georgia, who has just annexed So. Ossetia on its way to re-Sovietize the region?

Well, leaving aside the hysterical Obamabots and Vagina Warriors who are busy with their lame attempts to paint Gov. Palin as a white-trash bimbo (say hello to Feministe, Pandagon, et al), adults actually interested in facts should consider this

Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden's.

She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska's proximity to Russia, she may have security clearances we don't even know about.

According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

Indeed.

** Just another ugly, cynical selection **

Palin is as cynical a choice for VP as Clarence Thomas was for the Supreme Court. And for exactly the same reason.

Thomas would never grow into the shoes of Thurgood Marshall. He was chosen as an African American of the far right who would trample the hard won gains of the civil rights era.

Palin is a few feet shy of the stature to take over the presidency. She was chosen as a woman of the far right who would trample the hard won gains in women’s and children's rights.

Both of them are small human beings, intellectually and morally. Her xianity is a dishonest ersatz for foreign and public policy.

McCain's calculated cynicism at the same time betrays his lack of judgment and his frivolous nature. He capitulated to the death impulse of the christo-fascists (dominionists) who now control his party. Those who look forward with glee to nuclear Armageddon in the middle east.

Now, the choice is stark. McPain and a continued assault on the Constitution by ignorant, arrogant "servants" of an imperial presidency. Or, Obama-Biden and a chance to undo the harm suffered by the Republic from the Bush-Cheney thugs.

Wow. Don't let your preconceptions cloud your judgment there, bipolar2.

Great article Darlene. That lays it out there. The more the Obambots try to slander her, the more they are emphasizing his own thin (non-existent!) resume.

Sarah Palin seems like she's a decent Governor and have the right personality to inspire Republicans.

That said, all this knowledge and military secret keeping you refer to doesn't qualify her for VP or President, by any means. It just doesn't.

She may be a quick study, but she certainly isn't the MOST qualified choice for the role... regardless of gender. (She had NO IDEA what the Bush Doctrine was, did you see that? Clueless.) Proximity to Russia matters? That's like saying Arnold Schwarzenegger is an expert on Mexico.

Not that she wouldn't be surrounded by people telling her what to do. Not that Bush wasn't sufficient proof that anyone could hold the job (albeit, almost costing us everything in the process). It basically comes down to the fact that Sarah is just another politician and not anywhere near ready for "head of state" duties. (BTW, I have no idea why you think keeping secrets qualifies a president... huh? How about representing the people that elected you and their views? That would be nice for once. We have enough secrets and they have been very damaging over the years. Watergate? Iran-Contra? Monica? Hello.)

Let's be frank... to even think about claiming you have expertise you need more than briefings. You need to understand the subtleties of culture. How to communicate across language and protocol differences to listen to the "other side" and make a wise decision.

Sarah has said so many things about what SHE wants to do... I haven't heard her say all that much about representing what "the American People" (Yeah, ALL of us... not just her party) want for our country. I hope she starts showing signs of listening and representing the majority of US Citizens. No matter who is elected, it's about time the people of the US were represented fairly... and if you believe that's been the case recently, you likely haven't read this far into my post and never will. (sigh)
