Sunday Funnies - intentional or not

AGW's Pope GoreThis is a poster, for real, not photoshopped from the "draftgore" pipples.

Hmmmm... Flash Gordon meets Uncle Joe (or Hugo Chavez).

And they say cheesy sci-fi cover art isn't being done anymore.

[snort, giggle, guffaw]

Over at the NYTimes where they finally got their "opinion" writers out from behind the pay wall, one can call Godwin's Law on Frank Rich right at the headline. One click over shows her Dowdiness giving column inches to Stephen Colbert who writes

I’d like to thank Maureen Dowd for permitting/begging me to write her column today. As I type this, she’s watching from an overstuffed divan, petting her prize Abyssinian and sipping a Dirty Cosmotinijito. Which reminds me: Before I get started, I have to take care of one other bit of business:

Bad things are happening in countries you shouldn’t have to think about. It’s all George Bush’s fault, the vice president is Satan, and God is gay.

There. Now I’ve written Frank Rich’s column too.

Can we pay to have Rich kept behind the wall and give his space to Colbert?

Amazingly, the "controversy" over Harry Reid's handpicked and pimped Graeme Frost as moppet mouthpiece for nationalized medicine continues. This fun has gotten the attention of another moppet, Ezra Klein, who is a little sensative about his age. No small wonder because once someone wanders off the Left reservation where children are considered equals or better than adults in the 'wisdom' department they are going to be challenged on their creds. Ezra is about the age of my #3 daughter and I suspect she has had more real life experience than the directly-from-home-to-college-to-writing-gig trajectory of sweetfaced Ezra. Heck, if he wants to find out some real life experiences in "free" medicine, he should talk to #1 daughter (only 5 years older than him) who has worked EMS for years and will be taking her RN boards next year. Wouldn't a writer covering fires talk to firefighters? Shouldn't a writer advocating nationalized medicine talk to people who run on 911 calls in poor neighborhoods?

Naw, reality might be inconvenient to the child-like narrative of "I wish, so it shall be."

Back later ... I have Halloween decorations to put up, but don't worry. I don't pretend they are not pretend.

That graphic reminds me of a hero of the motherland artwork from the Soviet Union.

No. This is a debate about a broad policy that affects millions of people and has many stakeholders. Personal anectdotes are pretty useless for that type of analysis.

directly-from-home-to-college-to-writing-gig trajectory of sweetfaced Ezra.

Jealous much?

Geez, Josh ... I'm a mom, grandma, college grad, wife and have lots of years of life experience - good and bad - behind me.

I wouldn't trade it to be a know-it-all ivory tower resident youngster for anything.

Policies affect real people. Learning their experiences is required.

Would you trust to ride on a bridge that didn't have real world testing behind its design??

The "real world testing" is a cost-benefit analysis. Talking to random people who have some connection to health care (which is basically everyone) just to get their opinion on the health-care system would be a complete waste of time.

They forgot to include Gore's double chins...
