Ok...I lied....ONE more question

The hardest part of painting is prepping... so I'm in an empty house, washing down walls, spackling (love this pink stuff that turns white as it dries) and listening to the radio. Local KFI640 carried Matt Drudge. He's playing clips of Hillary going full Rainmaker schtick at a black church in a faux Southern accent so thick you can almost taste the molassis dripping off it.

So how come Ann Coulter is (correctly) chastised for a beyond the pale "joke" about John Edwards, but no one is calling out Hillary for her mocking Southern speech?

Is the Clinton machine THAT powerful, it shuts UP the MSM?

She wasn't mocking Southerners anymore than Bush does when he does that fake Texan thing. You're really reaching on this one.

Josh

President Bush lives in Texas. It's his home, even if he's not a native. One can acquire an accent when one lives in an area for years. He certainly doesn't put on an accent like jacket everytime he goes in front of a different audience.

Try this.... put Mitt Romney in front of a Chinese audience and him slipping into a faux Chinese accent.

Wouldn't you consider that mocking?

The double-standard is amazing.

Posted by: Darleen at March 5, 2007 09:19 AM

Sadly, the double standard really isn't amazing.

It's simply business as usual.

Posted by: gahrie at March 5, 2007 09:40 AM

Tou haven't even tried to support the claim that she was mocking Southerners. Why would she make fun of people who talk that way in front of an audience, who, I'd imagine, has a significant number of people who talk that way? It was an attempt to be folksy, just like Bush's fake twang.

Additionally, your attempt to draw an equivalence between southerners and Chinese doesn't fly, since race isn't the same thing as locality. Do you really think it should be off-limits to make fun of regional accents? The Southern white grievance lobby must be the most ridiculous phenomena the Right has come up with since flouridated water.

Hillary Clinton drinking game: watch that speech and take a drink every time she says "we" implying that she had some sort of racial struggles to overcome!

Easy way to get shitfaced!

Mrs Clinton is powerful. She's another Margaret Thatcher in her own way.

She'll kick the living hell out of anyone the GOP puts up. She's got the best political advisor in the country for a husband. She's in a can't lose situation.

Hillary in 08!

I don't know, Carl. She's going to have to do a better job than she has explaining her vote for the Iraq disaster. That said, if she wins the primary, none of the lightweights and cranks the GOP is running will have much of a chance.

Carl

Bite your tongue by putting Hillary and Thatcher in the same sentence.

WHAT has Hill actually DONE, besides being First Lady?

GOOD grief... in essense she SLEPT her way into her Sanator position and she's the big "feminist" star achiever?

Posted by: Darleen at March 5, 2007 11:34 PM

Actually, she was elected by a large majority of New York voters. I doubt she had time to sleep with every single one. Very feminist of you to attribute her success to sleeping her way to the top, though.

As for Thatcher, you should go to England sometime and hear what people who actually lived there when she was prime minister (as opposed to Reagan/Thatcher cultists).

A question, for Josh and Carl:

Are you going to get bent out of shape because Hilary and Barak spoke in churches, blurring the line between the seperation of church and state?

Posted by: I R A Darth Aggie at March 6, 2007 09:45 AM

Hey, let's kick Hillary around. It's fun! She was reading a piece of black oral history. What was she supposed to do? Rewrite the item as standard English and deliver it in perfect broadcast General American? Neutral reports of the incident say that she spoke without an accent in the rest of her discourse.

Mz Darleen: Last I heard Mrs Clinton was elected to the Senate.

IRA: the church/state separation in the US constitution has nothing to do with speechifying. Politicians of all stripes speak in churches; nothing wrong with that; its called free speech.

For what it's worth, I think Mrs Clinton is a Southern Baptist. Obama says he's a Christian, but of what denomination, I don't know.

Personally I'm not interested in their theological beliefs; I'm more interested in things like universal health care and withdrawal from Iraq.

The usual MSM hue-and-cry for racial sensitivity took a back seat to the MSM's greater priority: ensuring that Democrats get elected.
