'Progressives' are clear

They are entirely unserious about Islamism and its threat to Western Civilization.

Read the NIE document. The key judgments are only four pages. Read it and no longer wonder why the anti-American elements of the Left gleefully seized on snippets that, in fuller reading, gave an impression the opposite of what the whole section actually says. "Progressives" continue to conflate and obfuscate these four pages and what they think others have said.

I have a challenge. Read the four pages and then reverse it. Imagine that post 9/11 America took the opposite path it did ... no toppling of the Taliban, no deposing of Saddam, no tearing down of the Gorelick wall between foreign and domestic intelligence. For example:

The loss of key leaders, particularly Usama Bin Ladin, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and al-Zarqawi, in rapid succession, probably would cause the group to fracture into smaller groups. Although like-minded individuals would endeavor to carry on the mission, the loss of these key leaders would exacerbate strains and disagreements. We assess that the resulting splinter groups would, at least for a time, pose a less serious threat to US interests than does al-Qaida.
With the Euro/Progressive/Leftist approach of appease, apologize, bribe and no military action, key leaders of al Qaida would still be as operative as it was on 9/10/01 and the threat to US would be ... do I really need to finish this sentence?

This isn't rocket science, people. Telling a thug we "feel your pain" doesn't engender sympathy and gratitude in the thug. It tells them they are pursuing a successful strategy.

Another sad sign of the effect that radical Muslims are having on European art and culture can be seen here:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/09/27/berlin.opera.ap/index.html

Berlin's Deutsche Oper decided not to produce Mozart's opera Idomeneo, because some scenes might offend Muslims (as well as Christians). In the new production, the producer takes the idea of unjust religious sacrifice out of its Trojan War context (in Mozart's version, Idomeneo must sacrifice Illia, his future daughter-in-law to Neptune)and works it into modern-day criticism of religion as a whole.

I don't know how well it works on stage, but the idea of shutting off an opera production because it might offend some religious group or another is outrageous.

What's the matter with some of these Europeans, anyway?

Who are the progressives you are talking about? Name names.

Also, al Zawahiri and bin Laden are still alive.

A "successful strategy"?

Let's see: 2004 marked the single, largest increase in terrorist activity ever recorded since the CIA started keeping records dating back to 1968. (source:
http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/coffeehouse/2006/sep/26/the_facts_behind_the_nie)

or how about this:

In 2002, 52 percent of Turks had a favorable view of the US. In 2006, 12 percent of Turks have a favorable view of the US.

In 2000, 75 percent of Indonesians had a favorable view of the US. In 2006, 30 percent of Indonesians have a favorable view of the US.

And Darleen as to your comment

Read it and no longer wonder why the anti-American elements of the Left gleefully seized on snippets that, in fuller reading, gave an impression the opposite of what the whole section actually says.

FULLER Reading? Do you have access to the UNclassified version of the NIE? because I don'yt, and most Americans -- even Congress -- does not. How can we give a FULLER reading to a document which Bush won't FULLY declassify?

But never mind that. You missed a few key points from the NIE (Yes, I fucking read it)

Although we cannot measure the extent of the spread with precision, a large body of all-source reporting indicates that activists identifying themselves as jihadists, although a small percentage of Muslims, are increasing in both number and geographic dispersion.

If this trend continues, threats to US interests at home and abroad will become more diverse, leading to increasing attacks worldwide.

The increased role of Iraqis in managing the operations of al-Qa.ida in Iraq might lead veteran foreign jihadists to focus their efforts on external operations. Other affiliated Sunni extremist organizations, such as Jemaah Islamiya, Ansar al- Sunnah, and several North African groups, unless countered, are likely to expand their reach and become more capable of multiple and/or mass-casualty attacks outside their traditional areas of operation.

You call that a successful strategy? What planet do you live on?

Brad - Perhaps it would help you, and the rest of your paranoid brethren, if you'd start off by discarding the imbicilic tendency to frame every thought in a stallward mistrust and paranoia of your government and its leadership.

- Of course after all these years of indoctrination I suppose that's beyond your mental capabilities.

- But all the same, there's a reason we need to have national secrets. There's a voracious real and present danger out there. A cultist group that wants to force you to submit to Sharia'. Maybe you're good with that. Maybe all you Libturds are good with that. So go do it. Just don't expect trully intelligent people to follow your lemming gaggle over the cliff.

- I know, like all cults, you feel the need to expand your numbers, to give you a higher level of gratification, and gravitas. Don't bother. Your group has already gathered almost all of the metwits, and social misfits available. Just go forth and find out what it feels like, as your head is seperated from your shoulders, and you find your true idiotic Vahalla. Dumb, dumberer, and Dumbest. Putz.

Big Bang Hunter, parody troll or the real deal?

Posted by: Josh at September 28, 2006 04:21 PM

Josh - The lame brain argument that fighting the Jihadist is causing the Jihadist to want to fight just proves how ill-suited you pussy-chicken Liberals would be when it came to dealing with the terrorist threat. So take your fucked troll comments and shove them up your ass next to your head.

Must be a parody. Nobody's that stupid.

Josh,
No, he's a real Right Wing visitor to this blog and further proof that there are still too many Americans out there who think with their fist.

Our own President's not far removed from this mentality, actually. Shoot first, ask questions later. Kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out...

Posted by: Brad at September 29, 2006 08:38 AM

It's not so much that he thinks with his fist as that he doesn't appear to think at all. He just strings a bunch of pejoratives and made-up words together as if it was a coherent sentence. It's like a 4-year old with tourette's.
