Islamist Hizbollah kidnaps Israeli soldiers

In another move against the sovereignty of Israel,

QASMIYEH, Lebanon (Reuters) - Hizbollah guerrillas captured two Israeli soldiers and killed up to seven Israelis in Lebanese border violence on Wednesday, further inflaming Middle East tensions.

Michael Ramirez
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert described the Hizbollah attacks as an "act of war" by Lebanon and promised a "very painful and far-reaching" response.

"Fulfilling its pledge to liberate the (Arab) prisoners and detainees, the Islamic Resistance ... captured two Israeli soldiers at the border with occupied Palestine," the Syrian- and Iranian-backed Hizbollah said in a statement.

"The two captives were transferred to a safe place," it said, without stating what condition the soldiers were in.*

This is where "diplomacy" must consist of Israel unequivocally stating to the Islamists "release the prisoners in good condition and unconditionally or massive bombing starting at your capitals begins in 72 hours." Then do it. The thugs understand nothing else.

Israel is the frontline of dar ul Harb that dar ul Islam wants to wipe out with as much fervor as Hitler wanted the Rhineland.

Why are there any questions left in this regard?

Actually, Israel can't do much except negotiate with the Hizbullah group.

Airstrikes and invasions simply don't work with Hizbullah or any terrorist group. The last time Israel invaded Lebanon it turned out to be a disaster.

Now it looks like they are trying the same thing again.

Yes, Carl, negotiation and concessions have done so well for Israel up to now. Having close to a 1000 rockets rain down into Israel proper after a complete disengagement from Gaza is clearly a diplomatic victory.

I'm completely underwhelmed.

Plus, who said anything about invading?

A Darleen-type statement makes it clear: "Israel is not interested in taking any of your crappy territory. Give us our boys back or we're going to level everything in sight from the air."

I think targeting those who perpetrated this is a fine idea, but that wouldn't be Lebanon per se. Hezbollah is out of the control of the powers that be in Beirut. Syria and Iran are more involved, and yet, even they don't have complete control of Hezbollah.

What's more, Lebanon is so balkanized, that it would be impossible for them act against Hezbollah in an attempt to bring order to their south. The reason for this is that even though most of the Shia minority are against this action, they would end up backing their spiritual kin if Lebanon tried to muster a force against them. The logic is that of: "I'm against my brother, but my brother and I are against my cousins." Ah, the wonders of multiculturalism.

In short, the choice you seem to offer Beirut is this: don't act against Hezbollah and get bombed by Israel - or - act against Hezbollah and have a civil war.

I think Israel would to well to try to figure a way out of this mess without forcing the dichotomy above.

On second thought, that last sentence should be:

I think Israel and Lebanon should try to work together, sub rosa, to try to figure a way out of this mess without forcing the dichotomy above.

Why are there any questions left in this regard?

Uh, because the Israelis are the biggest thugs in the middle east?

DUH!

Geez, Dr Deb, history and current events are not your strong suit, eh?

I mean, those thuggish Jews are all about teh beheading, tenting women, murdering gays and eventual world domination ... right?

Riiiiight.

Not one of your better trolling moments.

Noah has the right theory. Lebanon is a democracy and who did the Lebanese vote for, Hezbollah and Hezbollah supporters. What is Lebanon to do? Turn against Hezbollah and the people will turn on the government. Turn against Israel and Israel will attack. Ain't democracy grand?

Israel has no other allies in the World but the United States and even that is a weak alliance at best. There's all the "war on terror" rhetoric which is all the "war" is, rhetoric. Want to win the war on terror? Stop buying all their oil and they can't afford to attack you. It really is that simple. You think these organizations get their financing from bake sales and bingo proceeds? The bigger the engine, the better the bomb. We've kept our distance from this conflict as much as possible except of Beirut in 1985 and we paid a heavy price for that involvement. The international community has always viewed this conflict as both sides being right and both sides being wrong. They're like a couple of brats who are too stubborn and too stupid to get along. Prime example, Israel's reaction to Hamas and Hezbollah's reaction to Israel. Stuck on stupid, both of them!

Israel wanted their one soldier back so they bomb the hell out of everything and kill 40 civilians? That will work. How about arresting a couple of the recently elected Hamas leaders and then dictating the release of the IDF soldier? Hmmmmmmm......too simple to be effective? Where would Hezbollah be in this equation? Out of sight honoring the 1996 cease fire agreement. No death, no destruction, no childishness! It would appear that both sides are one in the same and couldn't wait for the opportunity to push each other's buttons and start their s**t. And the international community has to be bothered by this immature crap why? If it ain't one side starting crap, it's the other and I say let them fight on their own and we should take a page from the rest of the planet and ignore these two brats.

Whats disturbing are the individuals in America who are treating this escalation of violence like masterbating in a frenzy to free pornography. The blogs who are broadcasting this crisis like free admission into a strip club and politically jerking off to it. Its truly disturbing and borders on a serious sickness. Is there a facist-political faction of individuals in this country who suddenly act (and it is only an act)like they care for Israel and are saber-rattling against Hezbollah from the strategic confines of their basements while masterbating to more death and destruction and the end of a cease fire that took America 14 years to build? There are truly some sick motherf**kers in this country!

and the end of a cease fire that took America 14 years to build?

What is this cease-fire you speak of, kemo sabe? you mean where Israelites get blown to bits by suicide bombers on buses, in shopping malls, and at falafel stands?

Interesting notion of cease-fire you have there...no, our dear friends in Hizbollah and Hamas need to understand that when you're part of the government and you attack a sovereign nation, that's usually taken as an act of war.

And they shouldn't be overly surprised when country they attacked replies in kind.

The cease fire between Israel and Hezbollah? Hello? 1993 and then 1996? Ring any bells? Pull out of Lebanon?

Are you aware that Hezbollah and Hamas are two different terrorist groups? There has been a cease fire in place between Israel and Hezbollah since 1996 after Israel finally agreed to pull out of the sovereign nation of Lebanon after the original agreement of 1993. Since then, Israel's primary source of problems has been Hamas and not Hezbollah. Both sides have honored the cease-fire until earlier this week when Hezbollah violated the cease-fire agreement.

We cannot forget what Israel did to these people 58 years ago and they were on their own then and they should be on their own now. We also can't forget that if Christians occupied that land, they would've done the same thing to us because Israel doesn't give a s**t about Christians anymore than they give a s**t about Muslims. What the Christians have done to these people through out history make the Muslims look like their friends so they don't respect us anymore than the others. I am not about to promote myself for some fake rally of support for Israel based on a desperation to feed a pornographic need for death and violence like others are doing. There are currently about 25,000 Americans in Lebanon right now and Israel bombed the Beirut airport to make sure they couldn't get out and we can't get in to get them. Hezbollah is not bothering these Americans while they are running and dodging Israel's missiles. Most Lebanese are seeking shelter in Syria and our Americans don't have that option now do they? So keep stroking yourselves in a pornographic, feverish pitch over your recent fix of "war-heroin" while the rest of us try to figure out how to get our Americans out.

And further more...I am not anti-semetic but I do have zero tolerance for a bunch of ex-liberal, trotski-socialist jews and their "born to follow" flock that have infiltrated our democracy to deceptively put forth their political agenda under the deception of Neo-Conservatism.
