Abu Musab al-Zarqawi - US military kills the bastard -- UPDATED

****scroll down for update****

I'm in California and this was wonderful news to hear on the clock radio that woke us up.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the most-wanted terrorist in Iraq with a $25 million bounty on his head, was killed when U.S. warplanes dropped 500-pound bombs on his isolated safehouse northeast of Baghdad, coalition officials said Thursday. His death was a long-sought victory in the war in Iraq.

Al-Zarqawi and several aides, including spiritual adviser Sheik Abdul Rahman, were killed Wednesday evening in a remote area 30 miles from Baghdad in the volatile province of Diyala, just east of the provincial capital of Baqouba, officials said.

"Al-Zarqawi was eliminated," Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said.

The U.S. military showed a picture of al-Zarqawi with his eyes closed and spots of blood behind him after he was killed by an air strike north of Baghdad.

And it seems a lot of Iraqis are pretty happy at the news.
"I hope his death will be a new page for Iraq," said baker Zuhair Yassin, 25. "He can burn in hell."

Isa Younis, a 66-year-old retired teacher, said: "I thank God and the Iraqi government for this huge gift. I don't know how I'm going to celebrate but I know that this is the happiest day of my life."

"I'm overjoyed. God willing this will be the end of all terrorists. I hope Iraq can now begin to stabilize now this pig is dead," said Qeysar Ahmed, a Baghdad shop owner as he watched Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki make the announcement in a televised news conference accompanied by U.S. officials.

Of course, not everyone is happy. As Beth observes:

Michael Berg has got to be the biggest idiot on earth. Just a few minutes ago, he was on the phone with E.D. Hill on Fox News (God, I wish I had video of this lunacy), and said he’s “forgiven” Zarqawi, and sounded as though nothing had happened with Zarqawi’s death. Worse, he launched into a rant about how BUSH LIED and BUSH killed his son (so WTF did he have to forgive Zarqawi for?). ED Hill even challenged him, saying “there’s authenticated video showing him killing your son,” and he still said it was Bush. Unreal. And obviously, he couldn’t care less about the Iraqi people who have been slaughtered by Zarqawi and his allies–in fact, he basically denied it. Nevermind the fact that the Iraqi people are happy elated (to say the least) that Zarqawi is dead–it’s all about Booooosh! [...]

UPDATE: Fuck you, Kos Kidz. Nope, no linky from me. Find their stupidity yourselves. (“Whyyyy didn’t we capture him?” They can’t even spell Zarqawi’s name correctly, much less make the right call.) Oh, OK, here’s one:

Oh great, now Bush’s poll numbers will go up.And support for this pointless war will go up as well. Shit. by Phoenix Democrat on Thu Jun 08, 2006 at 12:34:15 AM PDT
Stupid moonbats.
But Beth, honey, don't ever question their patriotism.

Heh.

UPDATED -- Michael Medved had Michael Berg on in the first two segments of his show (12 pm PDT). I'm stunned by the moral confusion that Berg, a high school teacher and the Green Party Candidate for Congress in Delaware, revels in. He aggressively denies evil exists and I can see why he and his son so disagreed before Nick left for Iraq. I'm hoping a transcript will be available later but this exchange, IIRC, was jaw-dropping:

MEDVED: Let's say it's 9/12/01 and you could have gotten Bin Laden on the phone. What would you have said?

BERG: I would have asked he what he wanted.

MEDVED: and what if he said he wanted no more contact, of any kind, between the Islamic world and the West ever again.

BERG: I would have given it to him.

Absofuckinglutely amazing.

BTW - I saw a post on PW that mentions that the word "Kos" in arabic translates litterily to "pussy". Apt I'd say.....

That airstrike also took out about 20 or 30 houses nearby. (See Ogrish.com) Who knows how many other people were killed along with Zarqawi?

Which means, basically, that in killing Zarqawi, we've created at least 20 or 30 more terrorists. More than that actually; when you consider the large extended families you have in the Middle East.

Don't be suprised if the number of terrorist attacks start increasing.

How is it exactly, that the death of Zarqawi is going to change anything. Especially since death in a jihad is something he and his followers devoutly wish for?

Nice spin Goss. does the Left ever get tired of being consistantly on the side of America's enemies, or is treason an aquired taste?

Posted by: Big Bang Hunter at June 8, 2006 09:08 AM

- This Lefturd meme, that somehow by taking out the Jihadist killers we "generate" more terrorists, is a total lame brained cover for the cut and run, spineless appeasement mentality, of the "loyal opposition". The Jihadists are quite adept at "growing" their own murdering thugs without any help from us.

BTW Goss, you'll have to come up with some other dumb ass "idea's". The video's on the ground show that the House was totally isolated, surrounded completely by a large grove of tree's. No other houses were damaged. Good luck with your Leftist bullshit.

don't forget: when we captured Saddam you Right Wingers were all saying " the war is over," and then Howard Dean got ridiculed for daring to state that Saddam's capture made us no safer. Dean was right. Nor does this event make us --or our troops-- safer. The insurgency will rage on.

Don't misunderstand me: I'm happy he's dead. But the administration had the opportunity to kill him two years ago and passed. I'll be blogging more on that later.

Brad

Please link an authoritative source of ANY Republican official declaring "the war is over" when Saddam was pulled from his hidey hole.

Michael Berg is on Medved's show now.

I hope to try and get a transcript later... this man is seriously morally confused.

Can I borrow "absofuckinglutely"?

Brad.... After reading some of the completely unhinged comments on the DU sites today, if it keeps up this way, the hard left is going to become such a yoke around the Democratic party's neck, if they havn't already, and its going to start too effect their chances in elections. The better things get in Iraq, the more outreageous, outright treasonous, their commits become. People in general are getting just plain fucking fed up with the DU and people like Frankin on hot-air America.

- Today you saw the Democratic leaders tiptoeing with their responses on the Zarqawi takedown. even they know a certain group of their party is completely out of control. No other way you can put it. Berg is a part of that looney bunch too, with his connections too ANSWER. Someone on the Democratic side had better take heed, or things are going to go even farther downhill for them. this isn't about political discord or debate anymore. Its pure derangement, and lunacy.

Posted by: Big Bang Hunter at June 8, 2006 05:45 PM

Berg's a Green (meaning, a socialist); consequently, he has no concept that a sacrifice which affects him may be worthwhile (as opposed to sacrifices which only affect others--he's all in favor of those).

I was listening to a replay of Medved's show today, and was struck at how civil he was to Berg. He did sound as if he was trying to restrain his incredulity, but he didn't constantly interrupt, as Hannity would have done, or tear him apart, as Boortz or Savage would have done.

Sanity

That's one of the things I like about Medved, he just tries to ask pertinent questions, keep the interviewee focused and let's them speak for themselves.

I really don't listen to the raw, red meat radio hosts as you've listed to them because, while they may make important points, I don't like the bullying quality they come across with.

Hugh Hewitt is another good listen, and king of the intelligent, thoughtful and great interviews of the right is, hands down, Dennis Prager.

I don't know of ONE leftwing radio commentator that acts like Medved or Prager. I tried listening (via internet) to Ed Shultz when he was slandering Prager, but he's as nasty as Savage.

I'm reaching back into the wayback machine, but the only leftwing radio host I used to listen to and actually enjoy (even as I most times disagreed) was Michael Jackson. He does commentary on KNX, now, but I haven't listened to him in years.

No.thanks.
