Google's choice on Memorial Day

Interesting, since 1999 Google (started in 1996) has tweaked their logo to celebrate all manner of holidays and anniversaries, but not once has there been even an acknowledgment of Memorial Day. Or Veteran's day, for that matter.

Conspicuous by its absence.

Pity the studied ignorance of those that benefit by others' sacrifice. Pity the ungrateful child.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields. *

Google should be ashamed. It's nice to know where they sit on the issue...the wrong side. Not surprising though considering their political leanings. You would think they have the decency to honor our service men and women who've died or who are currently serving. That is asking too much, I see.

Thanks for posting about this. I'll provide a link to it on my blog.

And Happy Memorial Day.

Darleen,

Google got started in 1996.

Brad

Ok...I'll tweak it. They've only had the fancy logos since 1999.

Well, they did celebrate Korean Liberation Day once, and they do do the 4th of July and Election Day. MLK day as well. Sad no Memorial, Veteran's or Labor Day.

In Bradleys words Google is the SuXoR..... except he probably loves them because they did the "bendover manuever" for China.

And those that leave their valiant bones in France,
Dying like men, though buried in your dunghills,
They shall be fam'd; for there the sun shall greet them
And draw their honours reeking up to heaven,
Leaving their earthly parts to choke your clime,
