Democrats just can't resist the 'race card'

On the heels of my previous post on the importance of assimilation, I find out that the US Senate passed an amendment to officially recognize English as the "national language." This should be a no-brainer, but outside the glaring and predictable 63-34 vote, Senate Democrat leader Harry Reid just couldn't restrain himself (WaPo):

I really believe this amendment is racist, I believe it is directed at people who speak Spanish
May I kindly remind my Republican brethren who are foaming at the mouth over the illegal immigration issue and are willing to commit political suicide over it, to understand just what they'll get with the triumvirate of Pres. Hillary, Senate leader Reid and House leader Pelosi.

- Lets see. Over 90% of the American electorate favor setting English as the official language. Comes along Senator Reid proclaiming 90%+ of the American people are racists.

- This no doubt is some sort of super secret Liberal game plan on the part of the Democrats to curry favor with the electorate and slam dunk guarentee votes at the ballot box. Or not.

- I think the only way that Reid and his jolly bunch of socialist misfits could get any farther from mainstream America would be for all of them to move to France.

The amendment was directed against people who speak Spanish.

Which is reason enough to condemn it.

Just another attempt to appear to be doing something about illegal immigration, without actually doing anything about it.

Most members of the Senate know full well that most Spanish-speaking illegal immigrants receive little or no services from the federal government.

They are lucky to receive any services from state and local governments, notwithstanding the fact that illegals pay sales taxes.

Carl

WTF? Since when is it the Federal Government's responsibility to fund Spanish to English classes? Are they funding Vietnamese to English classes MORE than that? Russian to English? Tagalog to English? Armenian to English?

Illegals receive far more IN services from the government than they pay in... the largest chunk being free public school education k-10, which in LAUSD is about $17,000/student. Stand there and tell me that an illegal couple pays $17,000 a year in sales taxes to cover only ONE of their children.

Yeah. That's the ticket.

Ability to speak Spanish designates a race? I guess I'm multi-racial!

Most members of the Senate know full well that most Spanish-speaking illegal immigrants receive little or no services from the federal government.
Who pays for the ER visits, Carl?

This amendment is superfluous.

English IS the national language, officially, because English is the language of business.

The only reason this amendment was proposed at this time is to drum up support from the Republican rednecks out there during an election year who are feeling threatened by all those Mexican flags in the streets. This is the 2006 version of the Nixonian Southern Strategy.

Brad

Have you been asleep the last 30 odd years or what?

The fact that English has NO designation as "official" has meant an onslaught on local government entities to make languages other than English as "equal".

Just why the heck do you think voting material is offered in other languages inspite of the fact that one has to prove proficiency in English when one is naturalized?

Many legal immigrants from south of our border fought NOT to have their kids put into "separate but equal" Spanish-language classes. Even as it was shown, definitively, that bi-lingual education actually interfers and delays with proficiency in English, certain "leaders" are still fighting to have it reinstated in public schools.

MALDEF and other leftist "group identity" politicial groups LOVE having a self-induced apartheid culture because it gives them political power. Just as the Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton poverty pimps enjoy their own captive audience.

Why the hell are members of either party wasting their time on shit like this when there are families being destroyed by the weight of medical bills, children graduating from high school unable to read, and seniors spending more and more of their limited funds on prescription drugs. Is this really what they should be spendign their time on? I say the the same thing to all of you who participate in this conversation of fluff - put your energy into something that matters. Call your reps to get them to work on making us independent of foreign oil in 5 -8 years (we put a man on the moon in 10 so this shouldn't be hard), tell them to reform education, and focus on health care for all and not to bow to the $$$ and lies put forth by the the large drug companies. Put your energy regardless of which side you are on into a universal good.

The "Official language" huffing and puffing was nothing more than grandstanding to gain political points on the trendy issue of the moment. Gee, we live in a country where Americans speak almost entirely English. Gosh, maybe we need an amendment to declare the official color of the sky blue. What a valuable use of time for our highly paid Congress. NOT! I'm with Mieke, in that there are other serious issues to be dealt with, like how people are going to live, and have sufficient health care, etc.

Yeah, immigration is a serious enough issue, but why not speak sensibly, instead of the "nah, nah, nah" childish buffoonery declaring us "English speaking"????? Okay, so now I guess I'll speak English.

Posted by: blubonnet at May 23, 2006 10:46 PM

And yes I think it was meant to be a dig at the Spanish speaking among us. RACISM, plain ol' arrogance.

Posted by: blubonnet at May 23, 2006 10:49 PM

- Riiiiiggght..... Tell you what.... if you want to see what racism looks like, visit Daily KOS and type in "Michelle Malkin" in a post.... any post.... Hypocrites

Posted by: Big Bang Hunter at May 25, 2006 09:54 PM

- Interesting phenomena....everytime Americans do ANYTHING to express our right to soveriegnty, or pride in our country, theres the damn libtards poping up to label us bigots, or racist, or whatever. I know how badly they wish this was France. Why the hell don't they just move there to the "workers paradise", and stop bitching.

BBH, As much as we respect our country, we respect humanity as a whole, and regard ALL of humanity as worthy of a living. We realize also the crisis of the job situation.

This country, the English language is a mix of many words, much of it derivatives of other languages. We are about the many.

Why don't you consider WHY there are those desperate people living in such dreaded poverty, that coming here to work and get paid LESS than mimimun wage is their dream come true. Very sad.

Look at the policies within the corporate world which have brought about this situation.

It is more than the one dimensional perspective you see it as. It is very primitive and childish to just say "JOBS...MINE....GO HOME" Kind of like a dog and a bone, or a preschooler and the red firetruck....MINE.

It is always more complex.

Posted by: blubonnet at May 26, 2006 12:06 PM

Why don't you consider WHY there are those desperate people living in such dreaded poverty

It's because they have a corrupt non-classical-liberal/capitalist government/culture.

Mexico is poor because of Mexico. They only survive so far because of American compassion and willingness to look the other way

It's not a JOBS MINE GO HOME....its SOVEREIGNTY RULE OF LAW, take your place in line.

Tell us blu...do you lock your car? Your home?

Well apparently the "rest of humanity doesn't give a horses ass for our welfare as a "hole", bacause if you tried this crap in ANY other country in the world, you ass would be sitting in a VERY inhumane jail.

Just more of the "touchy", "feely" anti-American Liberalism, bullshit.

We spend billions on "Homeland defense", and can't even control our own borders. Idiocy.

Border control has not a thing to do with immigration reform. Thats both sides of the aisle trying to have their cake and eat it too. Generate some feckless piece of crap like the senate do nothing bill too hopefully appease the dumber of the American electorate, make sure every item is denuded so nothing really changes, and hang onto the Hispanic vote. When El Presidente' says "Today is a landmark in Mexican American relations", you can bet your lilly white ass that America just got screwed.

- The only hope now is the House will put some teeth back in this creampuff, or its going to be yet another "kick the can down the road" year. Then we can all look forward to a 50 million problem five years from now, instead of the 25 million problem we have right now.

- those of us in California, and the other border states, and a few of the interior states, have been paying for this damn trainwreck for years, watching our public/medical services go under, schools down the porcelien craper, and floating 90 billion dollar high interest bonds to keep the state from total bankruptsy, all the while that the Federal gov. and the hacks in Washington keep sweeping it under the Congressional rug. We've paid the price in terms of money and a loss of quality of life in every way you can talk about. So stop adding insult to injury with the "touchy, "feely" AGITPROP. We're sick of it. Capeesh?

It is the corporations that Bush is having a love affair with, BBH! It is the multi-national corporation's policies that bring these things about. You should read more about the corporate vampires, the world banks, and the relationships with our government. You think our government is going to do anything for us? Certainly not the Pubs, and the Dems are nearly as bad. They are all whores for the corporations. Just keep supporting the right. (gheesh)

Posted by: blubonnet at May 27, 2006 01:44 PM

- Actually blu at this point I'm pissed at the lot of them. The Dems seem to have just one goal in life, to turn the whole country into freeking Gaulville. The Reps seem to think having power means never having to use it. Aside from the WOT, and spending a mountain of money on G_d knows what, they havn't done anything else in Bush's 6 years either. Both sides go right along ignoring the wishes of the American electorate majority. Washington, and every hack inside the beltway have been bombarded with a torrent of Emails for weeks now, telling them in a hundred different ways to: "Close the damn border!". Period. They're still pretending they havn't heard us.

- At this point I'm so disgusted with the whole mess, my feelings about Bush have moved from skeptical to wimp. This latest "bendover manuever", pandering to both sides of the aisle in issuing an order to the FBI to seal the records siezed from Jefferson, is just another example of Bush's left of center tendencies.

- I honestly believe the entire Washington contingent has jumped the shark so badly, an Independent party might actually stand a chance. It won't happen of course, but it helps people stay sane considering it anyway.

Posted by: Big Bang Hunter at May 27, 2006 10:21 PM

The golden rule is (so sad for democracy) HE WITH THE GOLD RULES.

The corporations rule. Who has the most power? Defense industry! Where does there money go? Who in the government owns big stock in the defense industry?

Remember what General Smedley Butler (one of the most decorated generals of all time) said...his book is titled:
WAR IS A RACKET

Evil doe not only exist in Islamic terrorism. Nor does it only exist in rapists and murderers of the common variety which our jails contain many of.

We all need to fathom the level of evil that exists in the defense industry and our government.

I'm talking about incompentencies, small pockets of greed, not grand conspiracies. Going off on wild goose chases just drains your resources and saps your energy. Great way to blow off steam, but you accomplish nothing.

Posted by: Big Bang Hunter at May 28, 2006 09:07 AM

JAYSUS, blu!

Is this where you posit that the Tri-lateral Commission RULES the US? Or the Jews?

Gads... that's so ... so .... 1960ish.

Posted by: Darleen at May 28, 2006 10:08 AM

Guess what Darleen? It is so 2006-ish. AND..there is a terrific and appropo quote from a favorite writer and speaker of mine. He can be funny too, but there are serious subjects he conveys with magnificent wit. His name is Jim Hightower. This quote says it all: "The corporations don't have to lobby the government anymore, they are the government." That is the state of fascism. Really!

Posted by: blubonnet at May 29, 2006 03:08 AM

from a former embassador to Germany in...get this, 1938! "Fasism is on the march today in America. Millionaires are marching to the tune. It will come in this country unless a strong defense is set up by all liberal and progresive forces. A clique of US industrialist is hell-bent to bring a fascist to supplant our democratic government, and is working closely with the fascist regime in Germany and Italy. Aboard ship a prominent executive of one of America's largest financial corporations told me point blank that if the progressive trend of the Roosovelt administration continued, he would be ready to take definite action to bring fascism to America."
