Here's a challenge for you

I've had the tv on most of the day -- background mostly as I go about my usual Saturday chores. I've kept an ear out to pay attention to all "Holiday" advertising.

Not once have I heard the word "Christmas" issue forth from the commerical ads. Home Depot has an elf running around delivering messages to go to HD "for the Holidays" and get your "Holiday lights and trees." JC Penney, Honda, Lowe's ... one and all want to talk about the Joy of the Season showing wrapped presents and decorated trees...

But what season?

Has ANYONE seen ONE commercial ad that actually has the balls to use the word "Christmas?"

UPDATE 10:30 PM AH-HA! Got one! Macy's runs an ad, no narrative, but a snappy 1940's style song that actually has the word "Christmas" in the lyrics! Geez, I'm glad I bought several Christmas gifts at Robinsons-May (which was bought out by Macys). I believe in voting with my feet and pocketbook.

Nope, I personally haven't heard the "C" word, myself! Ads, ads, ads, go out and buy, buy, buy for the holidays---but nothing about "Christmas", or "Merry", or anything like that.

The funny thing is---the powers that be in our society desperately want to get rid of the real Christmas---but they also desperately want us to to out there and buy, buy, buy, to support the economy (and their cushy lifestyles), even as they ban nativities, all mention of Baby Jesus, the Holy Family and any Chrismas carol that isn't exclusively about snow, Rudolph and lotsa presents under the X-mas Holiday bush.

I think it's a good idea to start boycotting these guys, beginning with Wal-mart and Target (at least until the latter brings back the bell ringers.)

Not much to do with Christmas -- just a sane business strategy. What would you rather target, N% of the population or the whole 100% (where N

The stores are interested in attracting *customers*, not Buddhists or Christians or Jews or Muslims, so why waste money on advertising that has meaning for only one group?
