Revealing Quote of the Day

Salem, Oregon

"I've been sailing through high school with D's, and now that it has changed, I have to work a lot harder."
And some wonder why the hell I dare question the "public" school Education Establishment.

If a student "sails through high school with Ds," how is that the school's fault? What about personal responibility Darleen? The article says, if you read it, that the school is getting rid of Ds to prevent the "sailing through" too. What's wrong with that?

I haven't seen many partisan hacks as bad as you are. Your are just blinded by partisanship. Give it a rest, will you? What set you off against liberals so much anyway?

what is a school doing socially promoting a kid getting solid "D's"? How are we in 2005 and still accepting school doing this crap?

I'm glad the school is doing it now, but where have then been???

How many other adults are out in society barely functioning because this school collected its ADA dollars and let him/her warm a seat?

Children are not ciphers, Tillman. They are living breathing human beings and as long as school is compulsory and funds are TAXED they damned better do more than build fancy administration buildings, run off to "workshops" in hot vacations spots and LEAVE THE KIDS TO FAIL.

Now, what the hell is so partisan about holding schools reponsible? Or is this where you want to say Democrats are satisfied with the status quo and want MORE of the same?

BTW..I have no problems with liberals. You won't find me railing against liberals here.

LEFTISTS I have a problem with.

If they are socially promoting getting Ds, then why are they taking away the Ds?

"How are we in 2005 and still accepting school doing this crap?"
Until now, I haven't heard anyone complain about the grading system including Ds. So how can you say that? You talk as if it has been a big controversy for some time now, but it hasn't.

I'm all for holding schools accountable, but this is just a baseless, partisan rant.

Now you are just being silly, Tillman.

Everyone is happy with the status quo? Fer crissakes, it is bi-partisan that public schools have been failing the kids for along time. I've written about the abysmal failure of 20% of high school seniors in CA cannot pass the competency test. Just because no many come out and directly say "it's because of the D's" doesn't mean they are NOT part of the equation. Social promoting has been discussed ad nauseum for years and schools are still doing it. Doing it so much that when one school decides to make a stab at stopping it IT MAKES THE NEWS.

And then we have a quote from some poor kid that he is shocked SHOCKED that he now has to work harder cuz he found his "D's" just fine and dandy, thank you.

Where did he get the idea that D's were fine sailing?

When you say you want to hold schools accountable but you belie that claim with each attack you make.

You're not going to be happy with public education no matter what.
You say that the status quo is bad, and yet express dismay if anything improves saying "why didn't they implement that before?" No, the public schools can't win with you Darleen - no matter what they do.
