PSA

I live in CA and working at a DA office can be tough if only for the fact one has to walk a thin line between taking cases too personally and becoming jaded with how too many humans behave. I've actually avoided a particular website for some time -- only because I just didn't really want to confirm my worst suspicions. However, I did visit. I was still shocked and I think it is really my duty to pass it on. For Californians, this site maintained by out state government under Megan's Law very easily provides you with the information on convicted child molesters in your neighborhood. The maps are provided by Thomas Bros. and you can search by any number of criteria, including by zip code. Once the map loads, offenders are indicated by a little blue square, which you can click for a popup window that provides startling information, including a picture of the offender. Obviously, as the website makes clear, this is for your information only and the state of CA will prosecute anyone that uses the info to illegally harass or harm the offender or his/her family.

Each state is allowed to figure out the details of their own sex registries. The FBI maintains a list of links to those states, like California, who have websites on sex offenders.

Please check your state and neighborhood.
