Another one fades away ...

My friend at work lost her father a few days ago. She's asked me to scan some photos for her to be displayed at his funeral. I was quite impressed by the wonderful portrait of him from the 1940's in army uniform.

He was with the Army Big Red One. He was with them landing on the shores of Normandy and fighting into the German interior.

One by one we are losing the Greatest Generation. And losing even the incentive to understand the history of the era without desolving into petty partisan sniping.

It makes me sad on so many levels.
