New Pope ... let the bashing begin!

I knew the minute I found out at work that Cardinal Ratzinger was chosen as the 265th Pope that the carping and histrionics would start before I could even come home from lunch and check the news.

Paul at Wizbang highlights some of the more interesting and amusing of the first comments from people who are shocked, shocked I tell you that Catholic Cardinals would select a Catholic (who was John Paul's righthand man) as Pope!

I'm still trying to figure out why people who are not members of the Catholic Church feel it is encumbent upon the Church to accede to their "reform" demands.

Arrogance?
I found myself screaming at the MSM commentator before I hit the 'mute' button: "SHUT UP! SHUT THE HELL UP! FOR FIVE MINUTES! PLEASE!"

Secret guilt?
Please affirm what I want to do, so I'll feel okay about it. Even though I'm not a Catholic and I shouldn't care one iota what you think.

A sincere desire to save us from ourselves?
This one doesn't bother me much, b/c I find it's often based on misunderstandings

The people whose expectations I really wish we could meet are those who'd like the Church to be what it claims to be, but see us fall down on the job so often and so disappointingly. That's who I care about.
