In the wake of glory - an indecency

Most Presidential SOTU speeches can put people to sleep faster than a couple shots of Wild Turkey and GW is no exception. However, tonights speech really hit so well, so hard that even those parts that might give me pause were so minor in the totality of the messages.

Wow.

Of course, I sat up at the low, rumbling negativity that almost broke into "boos" from the leftwingers in the audience. What the heck? I thought this was Congress, not England's House of Commons. Get a grip, guys and gals.

Outside of Congress, the trashing of the SOTU was being committed by the usual pettifoggers, but THIS is an unforgivable indecency:

your son is dead

you got 4 minutes of fame. that should do.

If "she" had said that in my presence, I would have slapped her silly ... screw the consequences.

Disgusting slut.

BTW here is Devore's email dwijas@email.sjsu.edu Feel free to tell "her" what you think. I certainly will.

You know, Darleen, stuff like that used to piss me off, too. Seriously. Throbbing forehead vein and everything. But you know what I realized tonight?

People like that just don't matter.

They shout and shout and scream and yell … and they persuade no one. They accomplish nothing.

Go read the CNN story about post-speech polling.

Darleen

Hats off to exposing the lunacy. Your posts are hard hitting!

A treat for me to stop in- EVERY TIME!

I'll echo Jeff. I used to let my blood pressure scream up there and spend valuable energy trying to rebut and expose jerks as jerks. Not worth it. Now I scroll past the trolls and have a lot more time to read and digest the substantive stuff. I enjoy it a lot more, too. And my BP is way down, too, which makes me happy.

I figure I don't need to tell someone like Miss Devore that she is an asshole - she heard it enough times from her Mama.

The fact that she has to live with herself is a just punishment. After all wherever she goes, there she is.

I too was shocked that anyone could make such a calloused remark.

So, I did some research and learned something not mentioned here as yet.
Miss Devore was making a caustic remark intended to convey the notion that GWB was capitalizing on the situation for the publicity of it.
Now, I don't contend that GWB intended it that way, but if one was to be objective one might realize that some could take the situation that way.

I personally felt it was a touching moment, one that gave some meaining to the dead soldier's sacrifice. But to someone who is totally opposed to war, it bordered on grandstanding.

If you have not lost a loved one to violence be it war or accident, you can't begin to comprehend the empty feeling.

If you have never been subjected to combat, you cannot fully comprehend the horror our soldiers are subjected to.

Imagine:

.. having to watch for snipers as you walk to the grocery store.

.. fearing a bomb will detonate everytime you walk past a parked car.

.. the gut-wrenching feeling of hearing a rocket whooshing at you.

.. the sickening feeling of hearing sniper fire and you turn to see the person next to you gushing blood from the neck.

If you can begin to understand that, you can begin to understand why some people are opposed to WAR.

I personally believe we needed to clean out the rats nest in Afghanistan and Iraq, but wish the military could have been given more time to prepare.

Perhaps we could blame the shortage of troops and equipment on Clinton who scaled back the military to conserve funds needed to spur the economy.

Would that make the Clinton-hating Bush-loving crowd happy?

Showing the parents on national television was a nice gesture, but it won't bring back the son they lost.

It is easy to find fault with anti-war folks while sitting in the safety of your home knowing all is secure around you. But once you fully comprehend the hell our soldiers go through you might not be so GUNG-HO.

The whole damned mess disgusts me but I will support our troops wherever they are sent till I draw my last breath.
