Hope, prayers,

happy thoughts, crossed fingers, rabbit's feet .... It starts

SOUTHGATE, Mich. - Joyful tears and frequent applause marked the start of U.S. voting Friday in Iraq (news - web sites)'s first independent elections in more than 50 years.

Iraqi expatriates began casting votes at 7 a.m. inside an abandoned store in this Detroit suburb. Periodically, cheers would erupt from one of the 15 polling stations.

"We feel happy now. This is like America, this voting," said Zoha Yess, 64, who moved to Inkster nine years ago. "We want fair, good government."

Unfortunately, we know some Americans are hoping that the elections fail.

- Good ole' Reuters, that bastion of liberal spin doctors, has now become the adhoc spokesman for the entire country....

"Americans were largely committed to the mission until it was determined that the primary rationale for war against Saddam in 2003 -- weapons of mass destruction -- did not exist, and that alleged ties between Iraq and al Qaeda were questionable."

- Oh really....Glad they cleared that up for me...Here I thought it was only the AssHats of the liberal left, and their burned out leaders like the unhinged boozer-kingfish Kennedy, who had decided to give up like a true Frenchman and stab our troops in the back....

A few nights ago Dan Rather hosted a special in Iraq. Don't ask me what night nor the title of the show as I was in and out of the house. I did manage to hear an officer who was interviewed and he stated the majority of the people they were arresting were not "insurgents or terrorists" but instead they were common criminals being paid to cause mayhem. The root of the problem is the lack of employment. The underground Sunni's are paying the thugs to do the violence.
My, now there's a new concept, the "insurgents" aren't actually doing much except to hire the unemployed to carry out the dirty work.
HMMM, let me do some math. One well funded Sunni could hire say, ten desperate, unemployed men to attack convoys and create havoc. That way it would seem there were many more 'insurgents' than there actually were. Sounds like a war of psychology to me.
I bet the Al Qeada are studying what issues worked to cause the US to give up the fight in Viet Nam and instrumenting them now.

I too want the loss of our dear sons and daughters to end but not in a disgraceful manner as suggested by Kennedy.
