Who's f***in' idea was this and for what purpose?

Chatting with my of my attorneys this morning about old-fashioned things like responsibility, discipline, politeness ... you know, all those things that rightwinger-nazi-fascists are trying to jam down other people's throats at the point of a gun ... and discussing how so many public schools have just abdicated anything dealing with thinking judgement. He was telling me about his very young daughter's elementary school (part of Los Angeles Unified School District) which has a prominent area called the Free Expression Wall.

You know where this is going, right?

Seems someone felt it was ok to put up pictures of the fight in Fallujah, including pictures of US soldiers and then caption it with "Baby Killers."

Nice. An elementary school -- kindergarten through sixth grade -- five to twelve year olds -- and it is appropriate to label American service people as "BABY KILLERS"??

Of course, at least one of the kids had a dad IN Iraq, who came back recently and was very very upset with The Wall.

Unreal.

Vouchers, please.

- As tolorant and peace loving as I tend to be when I see the asshat Liberals slip one in like this with total disregard for the sensibiities of children I'm moved to lock and load. (figuratively speaking)....

Do you think that couldn't happen in a private school? Insensitivity and moronic thought is found everywhere.

Just as the emphasis on being polite, having manners, and learning self discipline is found and valued in homes on the "left" and the "right".

Of course, moronic thought can be found anywhere. And I'm sure there are boneheaded things found in private schools.

The thing is, with a private school (or vouchers) the administration cannot tell you to go pound sand because you'll just vote with your feet and go elsewhere's.

Vouchers = parent power.

Maybe where you live, but the schools around here cost $15,000 to $20,000 a year, so $3,000 isn't going to go very far-that's for K-12 by the way. Even the Catholic and Jewish schools in L.A. are expensive (around $6,500 a year for the decent ones).

There is accountability for every administration whether it’s private or public. If there are enough voices of dissent, or even on strong and reasonable one, I have found there is almost always change. The public schools I went to in NY were very responsive to parental concerns. I know people who are very involved with their elementary schools in Santa Monica and in Venice – they are very happy with the results they are getting.

No matter where you live there if you are not happy, you have the option to change private or public schools (at least here in L.A), but that doesn’t change the fact that there are a finite amount of schools, so battles must be chosen wisely.

Have you or someone you know really had an administration tell you to "pound sand"?
