Band Mom update

Yeehaw. It was the first show of the season. My daughter's band had a huge influx of freshmen and her band teacher has decided on a musically intricate show -- a medley of Leonard Bernstein songs (lots of time changes). Siobhan has worked very hard with her band and with herself on the conducting.

It paid off. The band and drumline came in first in their division on Saturday.

I'm still beaming.

Glad to hear it, I'm a band nut myself. Was in band for 7 years, played cornet.

Hey, check out Powerlineblog.com for the article of SSG Jessica Clements, who was wounded in Iraq. She is in my unit, and I am her Retention NCO. We are both assigned to the 706 Transportation Company here in Mansfield, OH. I was really surprised to see her on the blog. Please pray for her. We are told she is doing great and will eventually make a complete, full recovery. She calls us at the unit almost every week. Thanks!

Ah marching band... I miss it so much. Especially nights like we've been having lately, chilly and clear, a hint of firewood in the air... it makes me miss band like crazy! The musically intricate shows are the most fun.. they're challenging. I have two that my school band performed; one was a James Bond show featuring the James Bond Theme, Live and Let Die, etc. One of our charts during the theme was a scatter drill which then quickly snapped (in about 8 counts) into a huge 007 on the field.

The second favorite was a Henry Mancini Tribute, in which we performed "The Baby Elephant Walk", "The Pink Panther", "Moon River", etc. That one was also fun. Not to mention the songs get stuck in your head like crazy.

Ahhh.. anyways sorry. You brought the band nerd out in me. :) Congrats to your daughter and their first place win!!

Band nerds are most welcome here!

Sondra, I'm actually getting a little weepy this year because Siobhan is my BABY. She's in her senior year and this is my last field show season. I've been at this twelve years. Some of them as a Band Booster officer (Pres, VP, treasurer, etc).

I'll be posting more band stuff as the season progresses, and some pics too.
