Religion of Beheadings

I want, really want, not to believe this.

CAIRO, Egypt - A Web site posting claimed that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's group has beheaded one of the American hostages in Iraq, but the claim could not be verified. The short statement, posted by a Web site contributor who has put up past statements signed in the name of Tawhid and Jihad, said that al-Zarqawi, "God protect him, has beheaded the first American. The group will next behead the others."

Of course, for too many leftists, Islamism is no problem at all. Just their way, don't you know? And if only America was less "imperialistic" and more "sensitive" (read that as code for "stop being Jew-lovers and cut off Israel") the world would be all skittles and beer.

Pffffft.

Hey, I'm a lefty, and Islamism is a huge problem. You know, I sat next to a young Muslim guy on a commercial flight once last year. He had the Koran (Arabic and English) on his lap, and we talked. It was creepy, let me tell you. It was like he was brainwashed.

It's obvious - if these people are taught that 1. America is the evil "Great Satan," and 2. If you kill them in a suicide bombing, you'll get 72 virgins in paradise, yadda-yadda, that's dangerously insane.

When people take their religion that seriously, bad things happen. I don't trust anyone who says God tells them what to do, especially if it involves, like, killing and stuff.

By the way, what happens on the 73rd night in paradise? Do you start over with #1? That's the first thing I'd ask. I'd probably want to know whether they had football and booze, too.

But for a guy, think of dealing with inexperienced partners every night. The sheer responsibility of being their sexual guide and teacher, good grief...

Scott

Are you really a "lefty" or a just a liberal? Remember, they are NOT synonmous terms. John F. Kennedy was a liberal, but he was decidedly anti-left.

This is one huge reason old-time Democrats are heartbroken or angry at what the party has become. IE Zell Miller, Pat Caddel, Dennis Prager, Charles Johnson and many others.

Truly, I am enjoying our reparte ... just thought I'd give you something to think about. I would enjoy your analysis.

Hi Darleen,

I enjoy our dialogue too. Thanks.

I don't know what liberal vs. lefty means to you, but I guess I mean liberal, generally.

Here's how I view the government: it's ours. We can do what we want with it. Our representatives are there to do a job for us, and address our concerns. I think it's our best way to provide schools, highways, cops, etc. It's also the best system for protecting ourselves from dangerous products or corporate theft. Not to mention providing national defense.

If you didn't pay taxes, would that extra few grand buy you good schools? Defense? Legal rights against unfair business? Think about it. Government shouldn't be some alien entity trying to screw us, it should be our tool to manage our society.

As far as welfare, the reason societies have welfare programs is because we don't want to have a lot of desperate poor people around - we're better off if we can help them become productive, off drugs, or at least not trying to steal our stuff. I'm glad to pay a few bucks a year to help needy people and take care of kids living in poverty. I'd rather live in a society with less desperately poor people, not more. It's really just self interest. Make sense?

Most accurately, I'm a pragmatist. I want what works. I care about results. I support Dems because they get good results, like the economy under Clinton, although I didn't agree with some policies he allowed (NAFTA, Iraq sanctions, etc.).

If a conservative policy works well, I like it. If a socialist approach is most effective, I'm for it. I couldn't care less what label it has.

I watch CSPAN a lot, and I am very proud of the actions and efforts of the Democrats. I like some Republicans too, and I don't like some Dems. Daschle has been very disappointing, and Lieberman too.

Miller is just too out there. Did you see him with Chris Matthews? Jeez.

But when I see Republicans join together to vote against a bill providing money for chemical plant security, it's just creepy. That is so wrong.

Yes, I saw Zell with Chris..and cheered him on. Chris is an ass, and Zell put him in his spot. Zell is a man while Chris is merely a male. (Chris' unconscionable performance with Michelle Malkin was what Zell was referring to. Michelle had better control that I would, I would have slapped Chris across the face).

I'd like to say I appreciate your honesty that you go with "pragmatism" however, I would point out the danger in your approach as it doesn't seem to be rooted in any value except short-term "results." IE the proverbial "road to hell paved with good intentions."

The greatest predictor of poverty is young, single motherhood, and the welfare state actively encouraged and rewarded single motherhood. Also, while not all fatherless boys turn out to be criminals, the overwhelming majority of men in prison come from fatherless homes.

I think it creepy the Dem's emotional M.O. in declaring race=ideology as evidenced by the fact that any minority that strays from the Leftist plantation is labeled "inauthentic."

This is just the logical expansion of the gender-feminist radical chic of the 70's "the personal is the political."
