Countdown to debate

gw_flightsuit.jpgO'Reilly isn't one of my favorite interviewers. Well, he's better than Larry King but that's not saying much. For Larry, it's all about kissing his guest's tuchas, for Bill it's about kissing his own. So I gritted my teeth to watch his mano-a-mano interview with GW last night.

I was impressed. O'Reilly reigned in his ego, asked some to-the-point questions and followed them up. GW was relaxed, focused and answered in a very straight forward unequivocal manner. Indeed, the last question of the segment ended with Bill and GW disagreeing on illegal immigration.

I could have done without the Kerrybot that followed whose "analysis" in totality of GW's performance was chanting "He didn't answer the question! He didn't answer the question!" And Alan Colmes is looking more disheveled and stressed-out as Jo_Ke trips over his own non-message on a daily basis.

If you missed part I, Fox News has the video on its site. I plan on watching all the segments and then the debate on Thursday. Join me for live-blogging of the debate (but I may be a little late as I don't get home from work until 5:45 pm PDT)

Oh! And I'm running this pic of GW because it absolutely drives the revisionist Leftists absolutely nutz. Heh.

Well- yeah-- for the most part. I was thinking about O'Reilly after the interview- and a lot of the reaction to O'Reilly amongstthe non-diotarians.

I got to thinking of some of the things i don't like about O'Reily- and realized a lot of it boiled down to not much more than -- why damnit, he keeps acting like himself. I want him to act like me, and think like me, and ask the people I want him to ask the questions I want him to ask-- and then react to the answers the way I want him to react.

Well- geez.

Disclaimer- if It weren't for O'Reilly I might not have discovered Fox News. In the early after math of 9/11 there was a particularly vociferous Idiotarian/Pacifascist member of the Clergy posting on the denomination's 9/11 discussion board. A real classic case- railing about AmericanColonialImperialistRacists going off to crusade against people of color.

Decided to do a Google and see if I could get any background on the loon. Found a link to a transcript of a ( unknown to me!) Bill O'Reilly on (never watched it yet) Fox News Network.

There was the record-- Bill O'Reilly talking to this Clergyman on live TV--and responding to his ridiculous statements with-- "That's ridiculous!"

Dwelling, as I do, in Mainline Churchland which was consumed with endless rumination on the question "what did we do to make them hate us?" I found this public display of simple common sense quite refreshing.

And more--
Britt Hume, John Gibbons, Tony Snow, Neil Cavuto.

Blessed Assurance!

NewsCasters with brains that worked. Common Sense! Rational thinking.
Even an almost redeemed Dick Morris!!

Besides, --how could I not show mercy to Bill? My other primary source of spiritual sustenance in those early post9/11 days - poor Andrew Sullivan- has gone from wobbling to jumping the shark. Maybe there is still time such that Ann Coulter might at least succeed in converting Andrew back to a recognizeable form of Christianity. Or at least something more conducive to the continuance of civilization.

God works in mysterious ways. Perhaps a celestial plan to lull the Senator/North Vietnames war-hero into deigning to appear with the new ego-less O'Reilly to celebrate having "won" his first debate.

Whence on live Fox News Network TV-- with enhanced ratings (thanks to Dan Rather) an angel shall appear and restore Bill's missing ego and hand him a Mighty Clue Bat (Ann Coulter signature model)to wield in battle.

Can't wait to see Sullivan's write-up.

"Senator/North Vietnames war-hero"

Bless you, Reverend, you've given me my first LOL of the day.

Scrappy FoxNews has had to work harder for its audience, and found it easily because the big three have taken it for granted. They have become insulated within their own community and not only do they find it hard that others don't think like them, they actually get annoyed when people refuse to think like them. Just like Eleanor Clift, editor of Newsweek, whining and sniveling about those horrible "conservatives intimidating" the Media [insert trumpet flourish here]. It would be laughable if it weren't so disturbing to wonder just how long this streak of basic contempt for their audience Old Media has harbored.

Disturbing. Yeah.

Brokaw called it a jihad.
Dan says if the country is in peril (if?) he wants to be a patriotic journalist. He didn't say for what country.

Meanwhile JK "won" the debate by suggesting we have some more conference meetings and suggesting that if anyone's wiling to pay the French or the Germans to build them some hardened bunkers for any WMD they might manage to make ( or steal or buy from some Russian loon )well, OK then. We'll promise not to make anything that might break them.

This is getting too glum. So I'll stop.

More Angels. More Clue Bats. Faster, please.
